Pedro Carrillo Jr.
Pedro was born in Cali, Colombia . When he was 8 months old he was brought to the USA and raised in Joilet. Illinois. Pedro is the son of reknowned wirewalker, Pedro Carrillo Sr. During his youth Pedro was constantly exposed to the circus. At home after school he would train on the low wire and trampoline with his step brother Milton Zamudio Jr. (who would later go on to fly with the legendary Flying Vazquez). Pedro later became a naturalized US citizen.
After high school he went on to train on the highwire as a temporary fill in with Daniel Acosta, a dear friend of the family. Daniel was Pedro’s father’s first highwire partner. Together they gained much respect and fame for their hair-raising feats on the highwire 40 feet high.
Pedro trained for a few months, then went in as part of the Acosta highwire act and performed in the USA and Canada on Circus Gatti. During the tour Pedro was spotted by Martin Espana who convinced him to try out to perform as a catcher with their trapeze act, The Flying Espanas. In a few short weeks Pedro learned all their tricks successfully and was hired.
He performed with the them for a few years. While performing with the Espanas in Hawaii, Pedro was asked by his father -Pedro Sr. to join him and to perform highwire on Ringling Bros circus for the Gunther Gebel-Williams Farewell Tour. Pedro agreed and went on to perform with his father and partner Luis Posso. The trio also went on to perform on the Circus Krone winter show in Munich. They also competed at the Golden Linea Orfei festival in Rome where they won 1st prize .
After 7 years of performing together Pedro Jr. decided to branch out on his own and form his own act with partner Luis D. Acosta. Since then he and his 3 person act have performed all over the world on the best shows in the business such as Circus Roncalli, Circus Krone, Ringling Bros, Cirque Arlette Gruss, Circo Mundial, Big Apple Circus, Cirque Du Soleil, and many more.
He and his act have competed and won many prestigious awards, such as the Coveted Silver Clown award which has also been won in the past by another Carrillo/Acosta team, their fathers.
Pedro is one of the few wire walkers to perform a standing backwards somersault on the highwire, and holds 4 Guinness World Records.
Pedro has thought of new and never before seen tricks such as leaping backwards over a person and performing thrilling leaps while a heavy, fire lit - pendulum swings across the wire.
‘My goal is to give the audience a thrilling and never before seen experience, ultimately leaving them with the desire to see it again”.
